Bionicle Destinies: Avar (Shadow Emperor alternate universe)

Avar, a Ta-Matoran in the realm of Karzahni, was jolted awake by a large rumble. He got up.

Suddenly, in a great, lifting movement, he shot up into the sky, higher than he’d ever been before. A metal wall filled the sky and he flew through a hole in it. Then the speed increased, until he couldn’t breathe. In the corner of his eye, he saw a giant orange/yellow planet, steadily getting closer. It filled his vision.

That was when he hit a sand dune in a great crunch.

Avar lost consciousness, his last memory being the sound of fighting…

Tahu was very angry at the moment. Of course, from Kopaka Nuva’s point of view, Tahu was always angry- but in this case, it was different. In fact, it was more accurate to say that he was enraged. Tahu had been devolved into a Toa Mata by the Kanohi Ignika, the Mask of Life. He had come to terms with it after discovering he had to don the Golden Armor and destroy the Rahkshi, playing what could be the trump card in deciding who would win- Mata Nui, or Makuta- but now he had to defeat the Rahkshi, Skrall, and some Skakdi called Nektann that had all stolen a piece of the Armor. Thankfully, Gresh and Takanuva had given him the shoulder armor already. Tahu dodged a laser blast from a Rahkshi of Heat Vision, who had stolen his shield. The faceplate of the Rahkshi opened to emit an ear-splitting shriek. Tahu lashed out with his flame sword and reduced the kraata inside to ashes. The armor froze and toppled over. Tahu bent over and pulled the Golden Armor shield from it’s prone form. In the corner of his vision, he saw a Skrall scamper away, still holding the pommel of his flame sword. Tahu growled in frustration and sprinted after him.

And standing tall above him, Mata Nui and Makuta were locked in a battle that would decide the fate of a universe…

Avar got up slowly, wiping sand from his Kanohi. He stood up- and then almost crumpled to the ground. “What the-” Avar took off his mask to inspect it. There was a long gash across the side of it. It was useless now. Avar sighed and discarded it. He could live without the mask for a day, two at most. Then… he would die. His only hope now was to find another Kanohi. But the odds that someone would toss away a perfectly good Kanohi were close to nil. Still, he could hope. And so Avar trudged on…

Tahu slashed off the arm the Skrall. The severed limb fell to the ground, still holding the sword pommel. The Skrall roared in anguish and ran away. Tahu removed the pommel from the limp hand and attached it to his sword.

A blade slammed into his Toa armor and sent him flying. “Give me the armor,” Nektann hissed. “My master must destroy it.” “You can’t do that,” Tahu answered, parrying Nektann’s Crescent Scythe. “I will, you fool.” Nektann snarled. “Tahu! Duck!” Tahu rolled to the ground as a bolt of light from Pohatu Nuva’s Midak Skyblaster slammed into Nektann. Nektann grunted and bent over in pain. Tahu swiped the chest armor from him.

A huge rumble tore across the sky. Tahu looked up in horror as a huge meteor the size of Metru Nui hurtled towards Mata Nui and Makuta. He fumbled with the chest armor, hastening to put it on.

That was enough for Nektann. The Skakdi slammed the flat of his blade into the back of Tahu’s head, knocking him out cold. “No!” Onua Nuva yelled. He stared up at Mata Nui and Makuta. Makuta grabbed Mata Nui and slammed him against the incoming asteroid. The Prototype Robot, which Mata Nui had taken control of, was crushed to a few useless chunks of metal.

Makuta laughed, a great, rumbling sound that struck fear into the hearts of all who stood there. “Now…” he said, “Bow to your Shadow Emperor!”

Mata Nui, the Great Spirit, had unleashed his spirit to reside in the Mask of Life again. Thankfully, Makuta hadn’t realized that the Prototype Robot had gone limp a second before it was smashed to pieces. Mata Nui heard footsteps, but couldn’t do a thing. Or rather, the Ignika wouldn’t let him.

Avar stared at the mask. It seemed perfect in every way, besides being partly buried in sand. Avar touched it…

And there was a great explosion of light.

Avar stood up, wearing the Mask of Life. But strangely, he felt taller. He glanced at his arms. They were red, gold, and white. He held claws in each hand. In his right hand were a wicked looking three-pronged sword along with a long dagger. In his left, a shield that reminded Avar of the symbol of the three Matoran virtues.

Avar had become a Toa.
